OUT-GOING Gauteng MEC for Human Settlements Uhuru Moiloa has thought the unthinkable when he suggested Alexandra has to be demolished for it to have proper infrastructure.
He was appearing at the inquiry by the SA Human Rights Commission and the Public Protector, on service delivery, over population and lack of development.
“For a development in Alexandra, they should demolish what exists and replace it by a new development. The country needs reconstruction in Alexandra but as the outgoing MEC I don’t have all the answers,” he said with a tongue in cheek.
“Alexandra also needed a block by block development,” said Moiloa.
The inquiry was set up following protests ahead of general elections on questioning the standard of living, crime, grime, illegal occupation of houses, etc.
Both the Nine Institutions work is to probe the understanding and the social and economic conditions of people living in Alexandra.
The hearing continues.
