12th Metro Fm awards in full swing to invade eThekweni!

Afro house crooner ‘Donald’ Moatshe was the star of the evening having garnered six nominations which include Best Male Singer and Best Dance Album, one of the hotly contested categories.

Swanky Summerplace in Rosebank was the venue and it lived to its adage: fun excites!

Metro Fm reportedly, boasting an alarming 5,6m listenership, the ceremony has been penciled to go down at South Africa’s favourite playground Durban on February 23, thanks to the bankroller: Natal Provincial Government.

Speaking after the nominations, Donald who was overwhelmed by the response from the public, said he was thankful to his fans who believed in him despite being first entrant to the awards.

“This is unbelievable. Indeed God is great. One should consider this because I’m competing against the best in the industry and to get six nominations aint a child’s play. Its hard work which I and my team put into,” he said jubilantly.

He challenges the celebrated artists such as DJ Pepsi, Tira, Revolution and Metro FM’s Glen Lewis.

Unathi Msengana, another Metro Fm morning show host alongside Glen has been nominated four times for her album ‘With Love’ and competes for Best Female with the likes of Toya Delazy, newcomer Moneoa and Lulu Dikana.

Metro FM ex-music programmer Fistaz Mixwell has been nominated in three categories, and other artists to receive four nominations are Kabomo for his second album, Memory Remains, and Delazy.

Desmond Golding, Head of Department at Economic Development and Tourism in KZN, says the decision to come on board to sponsor the awards was a conscience decision which would once again put the province on the international radar.

“Having partnered with one of the best commercial station’s in the country, this further shows that our investment will reap fruitful returns and this also symbolizes what the Province has to offer to the country, African Continent and the world.

We’re marketing our beautiful and majestic province what is has to offer from tourism to trade from business perspective to entertainment,” he said.

The selection of nominees in the 18 categories was based largely on their popularity on Metro FM.
