WITH spring beckoning on the horizon, organizers of the 2025 Blue Ribbon Soweto Kota Festival announced preparations for the eight edition of the annual family event at a media launch held at the Soweto Theatre in Jabulani on August 19th.
Scheduled for Saturday the 6th and Sunday 7th of September at the Dobsonville Rugby Grounds, organizer and festival director Sidwell Tshingilane once again promised to treat foodies, families, music lovers and culture seekers to yet more dollops of excitement – in celebration of the proudly South African culinary icon rooted in township street food culture.
During an address to a media assembly inside the theatre, Tshingilane mentioned his initiative being thrice-voted as the best event in the metropolis of Soweto, whilst acknowledging the continued support of a roster of sponsors as well as new ones such as Aldo Sweets, who’ll be dedicated to the kids’ zone and Oryx Gas, “to cover energy needs.” Mentioning strategic partners such as Sowetan and Jozi FM for the publicizing of the event, Tshingilane also attribute his event as being beneficial for Gauteng tourism considering it has always attracted visitors from out of town since its founding.
The festival’s headline sponsor Blue Ribbon’s Senior Brand Manager, Jenelle Bosman mentioned her entity’s partnership of the event being in its fourth year and stated the baker brand’s continued support of communities across the country – as well as its uplifting of vendors during the event.
According to a media release provided by the organizer, the much-anticipated festival will feature 75 Kota vendors from across Gauteng; lifestyle and artisan stalls featuring fashion, crafts and homegrown products; a dedicated family zone catering for children’s activities; live art and cultural showcases; as well as live performances by South African musicians and DJs.
Whether you’re a devoted Kota fan or curious to try your first bite, the upcoming razzmatazz promises to be the ultimate township weekend experience, whereat revellers may expect to celebrate township flavours, unity and culture – one bite at a time!
Tickets to the event – which are dispensed via Computicket, Webtickets and select retail outlets – sell for: R120 (for pre-sale General Admission) and R150 (at the gate); R80 (for children aged 4–13); whilst entrance for kids under 3 is free.
