The newly elected Mayor, ousted the outgoing Parks Tau with huge votes, yesterday, thanks to the coalition of EFF and other small parties that elbowed the ANC.
“Now the big job starts”, he told 702 this morning.
“The ANC had been dislodged and now we’re going to govern as voted by our masses,” he said.
Changes are not going to happen over-night but our first priority is getting rid of corruption; stench that is all over the Joburg and improving services in areas such as Alexandra, Soweto and Zandspruit, among others.
Another contentious issue is e-tolls and obviously Mashaba will attend to.
On delivery the businessman turned politician, said this would involve replacing a “cadre public service” with a “professional public service…men and women who want to serve”.
As well as being independent and proficient‚ Mashaba promised an approachable administration‚ even telling Robbie to “just call me Herman”.
The sad news was the passing-on of African National Congress councillor‚ Nonhlanhla Mthembu, during the sitting.
He also sent messages of condolences to the family and party.
Meanwhile, today the Ekurhuleni Municipality will have a sitting and voting for new Mayor and councilors.
