Dynamic Crew bags the RedSquare dance title

Winners at the 2017 RedSquare Dance finals held at Zeki’s Place-Garankuwa.

Zeki’s Place in Garankuwa, outside Pretoria was a hive of activities as the 2017 RedSquare Dance Competition pitted all kinds of dance moves for a scintillating grand finale.

And as miracles happen Musa Motha, an amputee and his Dynamic Crew, won big in the evening. “I don’t believe in impossibilities. Instead I separate the word impossible into two so that it says‘I am possible,’” says group leader Motha, who dances on crutches. He has bone cancer called Osteosarcoma since from age eight.

Other members include Given Mgcina and Tumelo Joseph Letsheko, all from Sebokeng -Vaal region.

The trio won the Sbujwa category before going on to pip the Hip Hop and isiPantsula dancers for the overall prize of the competition, to take home a total of R35 000.

Motha says they were disappointed not to win last year but it was understandable. “What clinched it for us this year was consistency, energy and versatility.  Also what made it a bit easy for us was the fact that we knew what we were going to face in terms competitors. We had a plan and stuck to it.”

Motha and Mgcina, both aged 21, have matric certificates whilst 24 year-old Letsheko has a degree in electrical engineering.

“We plan to register at a school of arts so we can obtain dance qualifications. Having been together since 2010, the group has won several other competitions in the past.

Winners in the isiPantsula category were Mos Entertainment while the Creed Crew won in the Hip Hop category.

Each group took home R25 000 while the solo category winner Mahlatse pocketed R5000.

House rising star Lady Zamar and Aries both gave a warmly performances much to appreciation from the packed crowd.

RedSquare marketing manager Vic Selaelo was pleased with the turn out and promised there would be improvements going forward.

However, on the matter involving Kalawa Records employee, who fraudulently claimed to have booked the internationally renowned and SAMA 23rd winners Black Motion for the finals, Selaelo said the matter is now in the hands of lawyers.

“Our legal team is pursuing the matter since we demand our full repayment. Our reputation as a company has been damaged and brand compromised. We can’t allow anyone or any organization to do as they please with our brand.”
