But God decided otherwise when he called back his ‘Son’ Tshepo Goodwill Sekese.
He’s passing-on last week Monday due to ill-health left all and sundry asking questions hard to respond to, except to admit the alluring and ostentatious Sekese will now dance at the Celestial View with Angels!
Sekese, for the uninitiated is his surname but because of a special bond and relationship created I enjoyed addressing him by last name and would respond “senyau-nyau” accompanied by that signature smile.
The former South African Football Association staff member; was educated and harnessed by the likes of the late ntate Solomon “Stix” Morewa- SAFA boss, whom along with Morewa’s son Bobby (lawyer) were key members who oversaw the development of football in Soweto, amongst others.
Described by et al as “Daddy Long Legs” due to his imposing body posture, was an innocent Soul-who would connect you with a prolific figure from nowhere. He was that type and today, I can attest and declare I had met influential people through him.
From mining magnate Patrice Motsepe, former Miss SA and businesswoman Basetsana Kumalo and Sister Kuki, Carol Bouwer, Lucas Radebe to influential ANC big-wigs Paul Mashatile, Premier’s David Makhura, Ace Magashule and Supra Mahumapelo are some of the country’s decision makers Sekese hobnobbed with.
Queens loved Him. Kings adored Him. Period!
He spoke their language: business.
Snazzy dresser, drove top range cars, opulent and ambitious that was Tshepo for you.
We both enjoyed traveling and the last trip we did together was to his majestic birthplace The Mountain Kingdom of Lesotho, to bury his father.
A cavalcade entourage of cars from SA to the border was too much to an extend the officials at the Border Gate only asked for our IDs.
As expected and a must Tshepo used his charm and influence.
Now, the question is who will take over from Him, ‘cos the sizes of your shoes are way too long to fill?
He lives two children -a baby girl a boy.
