Speaking exclusively to Sowetolife Magazine Online, Shandu-as he’s popularly called by his peers, poured his heart-out by attesting that with rural schools not having access to IT equipments let alone latest technology, he would seek IT stuff from his company and others to equip the bus to be fully integrated and functional.
The 28 year-old in his own words said:” My intention would be to take the bus to rural communities for they have limited or no resources to learn how to use computers, and so on.
Computer illiteracy is on the rise in disadvantaged areas and mine would be to curb that problem.
By so doing, the government would also realise the importance of making available the computers to those rural schools, although they’ve complained about theft and negligence amongst others,” says Shandu, who specializes in IT and Commerce at Wesbank.
“Because this would be a sustainable project, learners would be able to equip themselves with computer skills as they make way to colleges and varsities. For elders they would benefit in the form of jobs created be it bus drivers, mechanics, cleaners, and so forth,” he promised.
Asked how many school busses would be made available, Shandu, said for now its only one bus but should increase as the project grows and buy-in from the State.
Shandu is part of the the 12 finalists for the Hansa Pilsener Next Beeg Dreamer campaign, which will reward four South Africans with great ideas.
Since June, people over the age of 18 have unleashed their entrepreneurial minds and entered their Beeg Dreams in one of four categories – Music, Hansa, Community, and Home – to stand the chance of their idea being recognised for being as unique as the Saaz hop which Hansa is brewed with.
The judges include musician and producer Zakes Bantwini (Music) entrepreneur and brand expert Thebe Ikalafeng (Hansa), former Miss South Africa Augustine Masilela (Community) and Hansa Pilsener Marketing Manager Kelebogile Mashigo (Home).
In his parting short, Shandu said would like to send his regards to Hansa/SAB for making this project possible.
