Following series of talks between owners South Point and Lonhro, the hotel in Braamfontein is now known as easyHotel, the first in Africa.
Since its launch in the bustling ‘Braamfie’ CBD as locals would say, the hotel is designed to cater for students, academics and blue chip organizations, and according to latest information, it is breaking the ceilings in terms of beds occupation, perhaps more reason for change!
“This agreement is testament of the success of the rejuvenation of Braamfontein and we are excited with the benefits of having an internationally acclaimed brand like easyHotel coming to the area,” says Trevor Latimer, head of South Point’s hospitality division.
‘easyHotel by Lonrho’ will be the first trans-continental hotel brand in Africa specifically designed to be accessible to the many, rather than the few, through its low-cost business model.
Over the last decade South Point, owns more than 30 buildings in the Braamfontein area, and has been a major player in the renewal of the precinct.
“We are pleased to be bringing one of the world’s leading consumer brands to the South African hotel market. After securing such a landmark property, Lonrho Hotels looks forward to making South Africans and the country’s visitors happy by offering; branded, stylish and excellent location all for a fantastic price,” said Lonrho CEO, Ewan Cameron.
easyHotel is the latest addition to the Lonrho Hotels portfolio, joining the Hotel Cardoso – Maputo, Leopard Rock Hotel & Championship Golf Course – Mutare, Grand Karavia – Lubumbashi, Grand Hotel Kinshasa and Lansmore Masa Square – Gaborone.
Lonrho’s arrival in the South African market is significant, both the location of the property and its positioning at the budget end of the market.
The usual orange colours still remain though!
