Meetings are held monthly and the most recent, took place at READ’s offices in Booysens at the beginning of August.
Guest speakers included Bontle Senne and Hlengiwe Sindane, both from NPO Puku Children’s Literature Foundation, and Lindiwe Mthembu, a Readathon Ambassador.
Topics covered included Hlengiwe’s vision for her future in radio broadcasting and a sample of a radio show that talks about READ’s work and determination to promote reading.
Also on the agenda for the day was story-telling ‘the longest story in the world’ by Bontle.
Children, parents and educators all participated in the reading, poetry, public speaking and fun memory games.
Learners from Nka Thuto and Motsewapele Primary Schools enjoyed participating in all the activities.
A Setswana idiom goes: ‘thuto ke lefa’ loosely translated education is wealth.
