Since then Tholwana Mohale, hasn’t looked back and is a South African Music Awards (2019) nominee in the Best Pop Album for her debut album 2.0.1.5.
She burst into the ‘unforgiving world of music’ in 2014 at the age of 14, after clinching the SA’s Got Talent show. She went on to release her 10-track debut titled album 2.0.1.5 in 2019.
“The album’s name is 2.0.1.5, inspired by the year itself, as it was a very significant time in my life. It was the year that I started working in the studio at Sony, went into dramatic arts – at the National School of Arts – and, of course, experienced the high-school love that inspired many of the songs on the album. It helped me evolve a lot as a person,” she was quoted.
Mohale, who graduated from National School of Arts in 2017, is currently studying psychology at Wits University.
She added that a “high school love” story dominated her tracklist on the new album.
Under her belt, she has produced few singles, such as Hollywood Guy and Playing on My Mind, and in 2017, her first EP, Warrior was also unveiled.
“I’ve always been a pop lover, so my sound definitely reflects that genre. The open and airy feel attributed to indie is also evident in the album.
“We wanted to express the emotion of the album in a very cool way, mostly allowing the lyrics to carry the weight thereof.”
Asked who should buy this album and why, Mohale insisted: “Anyone who’s totally in love with love and everything it comes with! Music lovers will be triggered by the sound of the album,” pointed-out the 18 year-old.
As the name suggests Tholwana (something prettier or nicer), we wish her well in the awards!
The SAMA25th ceremony takes place at Sun City resort, North West province on June 1 2019.
