The show host, Loyiso Gola announced the news through his twitter account last night.
“Late Nite News gets an Emmy nomination. This life thing is humbling,” he tweeted.
Speaking to Sowetan LIVE this morning, Gola said that the team was still very excited and were still soaking it all in.
“It’s only been about 12 hours since we received the email about our nomination, we have to let it sink in a bit,” he said.
The nominees for the International Emmy Awards were selected from 19 countries across nine categories.
The show has been nominated in the ‘Best Comedy’ category and will be competing against shows from the UK, Brazil and France.
“This is a big thing for the show because it means that we will have a bigger reach and be able expand to more countries around the world. LNN is already popular in most sub-Saharan countries and I think this nomination opens up potential for further growth,” Gola added.
The award ceremony will take place on November 25, 2013 at a Gala event in New York and although Gola doesn’t know how many team members will be attending, he hopes to be amongst them.
“I’ve already prepared a speech with about 50 people I want to thank but obviously I’ll have to cut it down,” he jokes.
Asked whether Julius Malema was included in the list, Gola said yes.
“He’s at the top of my list because he gave us so much material”, the funny man quipped.
MasterChef South Africa also scored a nomination in the category for ‘Non-scripted Entertainment’
