Motlalepule Moalusi, who has been with the sector for donkey years, says if only they were rewarded with respect and nothing else, the community would realise the hardwork we face everyday, if only, she says angrily, during interview in Soweto during her lunch.
This follows the International Nurses Day globally, to mark the work and contributions nurses play in our communities and health sector, that was celebrated on Monday.
“What is there to celebrate when we fight for PPEs as a result of Covid-19, salaries are of poor-standard and recognition worthless. So, what’s there to celebrate?” she asked with a broken tone.
Two years ago she quit her post in the North West province after a serious breakdown as a result of sub-standard equipments and no recognition but she was approached last year to make a comeback in Gauteng.
“Me thought there will be improvement since Gauteng hospitals are better off but it is still the same.
How do I encourage a youngster from my village or anywhere to study Nursing when I myself not happy with the system?” asked Motlapule – he who brings rain- a meaning to her name.
“At times I feel like just letting it go and continue with my small business but when the bug has bitten there’s no turning back. I love providing service to patients because it’s a calling that I will cherish for as long as I live,” she says heartily.
I get fulfilled when a sick kid gives that joyous smile, she said delightfully though.
