The MEC for Community Safety was under no threat or whatsoever!

With residents clashing with Police, the situation got out of hand and the MEC had to be escorted from the area as she tried in vain to address the community.

A protester was shot dead and another was wounded during the demonstrations. Five others were arrested for public violence.

An investigation into the protester’s death has been launched, said spokesperson Captain Tsekiso Mofokeng.

Mpho Lefaka, a resident says their gripe has to do with houses which they were promised by the Municipality.

“They’ve been promising us houses and sanitation but to date nothing. Yet, they’ve got a nerve to canvass for our votes,” she said with teary-eyes.

According to our source, the MEC was threatened and had to be escorted but the department’s spokesperson Thapelo Moiloa emphasized that was not the case.   

Emfuleni municipality mayor Greta Hlongwane tried to address residents yesterday but they wanted Premier Nomvula Mokonyane instead.

This morning Tshepiso-Section was quiet but under the watchful eye of strong Police presence.
