WizKid leads this years’ ‘Friends of Amstel SA’ virtual showpiece

It happens virtually on March 27 live on Channel O.

Despite social distancing, Amstel is still bringing friends together with the best in entertainment in weekly performances, streamed and broadcast to your home.

“Friends of Amstel is the physical manifestation of Amstel Lager’s timelessness bringing new and old friends together through the celebration of music. The property has the ability to come alive in many different formats.

It has been a physical event, it has been a Master Session series and now it’s a virtual event. This keeps friends coming back with renewed excitement each time”, says Dimakatso Napiane, Amstel SA Senior Brand Manager.

Amstel not only refers to its loyal consumers as friends of the brand, but also the talents who have become friends along the way.

Since its inception, Friends of Amstel has added local stars, such as Da Vinci, to the circle. Never forgetting its existing friends, but always open and welcoming to new friends, Amstel for the first time is opening beyond the borders of South Africa by adding Wizkid to its friendship circle via this virtual addition.

Known for his artistry in effortlessly combining Afrobeats sounds with Hip Hop, R&B and Dancehall, the Nigerian-born star has partnered with the likes of Drake, Burna Boy, and Damian Marley to name a few.

His latest work ‘Made in Lagos’ broke several African streaming records and he is set to bring that fire to the Friends of Amstel SA Virtual Edition.

WizKid is excited to join the Amstel family in bringing music lovers together and to connect with his South African music community.

“I love South Africa, I am grateful for the support my fans give me and we are going to turn up together. With so many events now held online, this festival is exciting, and I cannot wait to see all the other acts perform, thank you Amstel for this great platform commented the Grammy-nominated star.

“The beauty of a spectacular platform, such as Friends of Amstel, talks directly to our values of getting people to drop their facades, be truly themselves and connect with others in ways they never thought possible.

Having Wizkid join our friendship circle just means we can connect throughout Mzansi and right across Africa”, adds Napiane.

Catch all the Friends of Amstel energy every Saturday on Channel O, premiering on 27 March 2021 at 14:00 with Sunday repeats at 13:00.

Beats will be coming to Africa through three weekly performances by the talented house duo DBN GOGO and Dinho; music power couple Lamiez Holworthy and Khuli Chana;  DJ LeSoul, Cairo, Spokenpriestess, Zai Maya and Focalistic.

“We’re excited to be bringing more surprises with Wizkid in the months leading up to his must-see performance at Friends of Amstel SA in 2021,” says Amstel Brand Manager Grant Lake.

The Channel O broadcasts will serve as a lead up to the main live festival later this year.

At the same time, The Friends of Amstel platform will be activated in other African regions, including Rwanda, Sierra Leone and Burundi.
