Peugeot revs in two nominees for COTY

Following hot on the heels of the PEUGEOT 2008 SUV being named South African Car of the Year last year, product excellence momentum is certainly building for the French brand.

The South African Guild of Mobility Journalists (SAGMJ) announced 25 finalists for the prestigious competition, including the PEUGEOT 208 and Landtrek 4×4 Double Cab. The South African Car of the Year competition has run continuously since 1986 as one of the most prestigious South African motor industry accolades.

In addition to winning the title last year, Stellantis also featured twice in the finalists in 2021, including the Opel Corsa. This year, the PEUGEOT 208 contests the Compact category against three other contenders, while Landtrek – PEUGEOT’S foray back into the bakkie market – is one of two Double Cabs in the competition.

“With one of the freshest model ranges on the South African market, PEUGEOT is making exciting waves with customers,” said Leslie Ramsoomar, Managing Director of Stellantis South Africa. “As always, it is wonderful to receive recognition of our cars that are really meeting customer demands.”

The innovative PEUGEOT 208 is available in four models in Active, Allure and GT specification levels, including the option of an automatic, an attractive option in the segment. Packed with infotainment technology that seamlessly integrates life, the PEUGEOT 208 is as relevant for today as it is attractive to own.

PEUGEOT re-entered the bakkie market in 2021 with the Landtrek. With a long history of Pick-Ups, the impressive Landtrek features a number of class-leading design features ideally suited to the huge popularity of bakkies in the South African market.

“This year’s COTY finalists show us the tremendous speed of research and development in the automotive industry. The finalists represent the best of the best in South Africa, and we are eager to see who the winners of this year’s competition will be,” said Carl Wepener, Chairman of the SAGMJ.

The final round of scoring will commence shortly and continue until early April.
