Minister of electricity- haikhona Pres?

STATE OF Disaster to deal with energy crisis in the country has been declared by President Cyril Matamela Ramaphosa, during his vague State of the Nation Address on Thursday evening, Cape Town.

But the appointment of another minister of Electricity it’s a BIG NO, with the Inkatha Freedom Party taking a jab- asking what would follow, minister of potholes or minister of what, what?

With already ballooning budget what will be the difference between departments of energy and public enterprise, I ask?

Pres Ramaphosa says the minister will work with the Eskom board and management on ending power cuts.

“I will appoint the Minister of Electricity in the Presidency to assume full responsibility for overseeing all aspects of the electricity crisis response, including the work of the National Energy Crisis Committee,” he told the nation.

“The minister will focus full-time on the work with the Eskom board and management on ending load-shedding and ensuring that the energy action plan is implemented without delay.

“As to remove any confusion, the Minister of Public Enterprises will remain the shareholder representative of Eskom and steer the restructuring of Eskom.”

The president also declared a state of disaster to deal with the country’s worsening electricity crisis with immediate effect, a move shot down by some pointing out, it will pave way for corruption.

Both Gwede Mantashe and Pravin Gordan do not see eye to eye on energy crisis matter and have been reprimanded on several occasion by the President.

Social grants has been extended yet again, but on job creation stimulus, the President has not convinced the public on that subject having alluded in his 2022 SONA, that R1m jobs would be created.

EFF caused a stir as they stormed the stage resulting in protection officers and SAPS scrambling to protect Pres Ramaphosa, after being told to leave the address.
