New acting CE appointed at Eskom, as ANC guns for De Ruyter

ESKOM has appointed Calib Cassim as interim CEO with immediate effect.

This comes after Andre de Ruyter’s abrupt departure from the company on Wednesday.

De Ruyter was initially set to leave the power utility at the end of March but left this week.

Cassim has worked at Eskom for over 20 years and has been a chief financial officer since 2018.

He is a registered Chartered Accountant and holds a master’s in Business Leadership.

Meanwhile, OUTA CEO, Wayne Duvenage says the ANC government cannot ignore the allegations made by former Eskom CEO, Andre de Ruyter.

De Ruyter made claims about ongoing corruption by senior politicians in an interview with Annika Larsen.

Duvenage says the ANC knows its members are to blame for the country’s energy crisis.

He says President Cyril Ramaphosa should look into the matter and act decisively.

ANC’s SG Fikile Mbalula says they will write a letter to De Ruyter following damning allegations for clarity.

He says, as a lawyer, De Ruyter should have identified those whom he says are corrupt within the ANC, instead of painting the whole organization with the same brush.

“We will take this matter to court if he does not respond in 7 working days” says Mbalula, reports Sydney Morweng- News Ed.
