THE CITY of Johannesburg advises residents and interested parties about the fast-approaching closing date of 5 May 2023, to allow them to lodge objections against any entry in the General Valuation Roll (GVR) 2023.
The City warns that there won’t be any extensions beyond the closing date. Residents and property owners who are not happy about any entry relating to properties in the GVR 2023 are advised to object before the closing date.
Kgamanyane Maphologela, the Director of Customer Communications for the City’s Group Finance Department, says there is a steady increase of property owners who are lodging objections.
“We plead with our residents to not wait for the final day before they lodge objections. There is still enough time left until the closing date, so the residents should be utilizing this time to submit an objection,” says Maphologela.
According to Maphologela, it is advisable for residents to object early, so that they can get references to their objections. This will assist residents to be able to track progress of their objections, in time and without rushing.
Maphologela says the City officially opened the GVR 2023 inspection and objection period from 15 February to 31 March 2023. However, the City extended the closing date.
“We are now in the final push towards the closing date. We would appreciate if residents and interested parties take this opportunity to look at all the entries of properties and the proposed new values. Should residents not be happy they should not waste time to object,” adds Maphologela.
The City advises those residents who wish to bring their bulk objections not to come to the Customer Service Centres but rather approach the Valuation office where they will be allowed to wait for all the bulk submission to be captured, and be provided with reference numbers before leaving the offices of the City. Clients are encouraged to make appointments so that the bulk can be captured. The bulk objections can be processed at: Valuation Administration, 1st Floor, Jorissen Place, 66 Jorissen Street, Braamfontein.
For residents who wish to lodge individual objections, they can do so conveniently by registering online GVR2023: https://objections.joburg.org.za/. Alternatively, they can visit any of the below mentioned dedicated Customer Service Centres:
