Water disruptions hit some parts of Joburg

WATER shutdown has kicked in, as we continue to deal with loadshedding!

Various areas in and around Johannesburg will be affected by water- shortage due to infrastructure repair.

Rand Water’s planned water shutdown that will affect a number of areas across the City of Johannesburg. The shutdown is planned to take place from 19h00 on Tuesday, 11 July 2023, to Friday, 14 July 2023, at 05h00.

The purpose of the shutdown is to provide a window for maintenance that cannot be executed while the plant is operational. This will assist in upgrading the infrastructure and keep it functioning optimally and improve its reliability, according to Rand Water.

“We encourage all affected residents to fill up their empty container two days before the shutdown from Sunday, 9 July 2023. Residents are requested to not only start storing water a day before the shutdown to reduce the impact on Johannesburg water reservoir and towers,” said MMC for Environment and infrastructure Services Department (EISD) in City of Joburg, Jack Sekwaila.

The recovery of water supply can take approximately five to 14 days after the supply has been fully restored.

“We assure the residents of the City of Joburg that during the shutdown, Johannesburg Water will provide stationary tankers at hospitals, clinics, municipal offices, schools and police stations. There will also be mobile tankers across the City in all affected area until the water supply is fully restored,” said MMC Sekwaila.
