SOUTH Korean technology manufacture released its latest foldable phones, the Galaxy Z Flip and Z Fold, respectively.
Samsung, decided to launch the latest editions globally, with SA hosting its reveal at the busy and hustling Rosebank.
Described by fellow journos as “two popular foldables will be the stars” these will be a game changer of note within the mobile industry globally.
The Z Flip, will allow the center of the display to form a teardrop shape when closed, enabling the two sides of the phone to fold flat, like the Pixel Fold, whereas the Z Fold 4 leaves a slight gap when it’s shut.
The teardrop hinge is said to shave around 2mm off the Fold 5’s thickness when closed. Also, Samsung has moved the LED from below the camera array to the side.
On the specs: its a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor with up to 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage, meaning the latest iteration could be a great starting point for those new to foldables.

Unfortunately the global smartphone market has seen a bit of a downturn of late, with the global smartphone market having declined 14 percent year-on-year in the first quarter of 2023.
This downturn affected Samsung last quarter and it seems to have persisted into the second quarter.
Revenue across the board is down 6 percent compared to the first quarter and this drop is largely due to a decline in smartphone shipments.
Looking at results year-on-year, Samsung’s profits are down 95 percent, the same drop it reported in Q1.
Samsung is also hoping its new Watch6 and Tab S9 series perform well this quarter.
In terms of the Galaxy Z Flip5, it will be open for pre-orders locally on 11th August 2023 until it hits generable availability in South Africa on 25th August 2023.
Retail price for the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5 is R29 999 at all local retailers, partners and Samsung branded stores.
