That ‘monkey’ is off Tau’s back- as Bafana register a much needed win against Namibia

IT was about time.

Perhaps pressure does work magic, especially when odds are stacked against you.

Bafana Bafana registered their much needed win against not so hopeless neighbours Namibia on Sunday night, during the Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire.

They produced a clinical performance to beat Namibia 4-0 in the second game of Group E to erase the disappointing 2-0 defeat to Mali.

Sundowns evergreen Themba “Mshishi” Zwane’s brace, a penalty conversion by Percy Tau (had to redeem himself after missing one against Mali) and a fierce shot from another Downs striker Thapelo Maseko, showed Bafana’s intent.

Yes, that monkey is now off Percy’s back!

Coach Hugo Broos boys have recorded the biggest winning margin at the tournament so far.

Its early to speculate if this current team are to emulate the class of ’96 and go all the way in the competition, if only the team can just up the ante a bit and tweak the mistakes at the defence.

Look, if Namibia’s strikers were clinical we could be talking a different game altogether.

Next is nemesis Tunisia on Wednesday, and this will be tough, I tell you.

The result sees South Africa rise to second place on the log on three points, one behind leaders Mali, with Namibia dropping back to third place (three points), and Tunisia (one point) rounding out the quartet.
