Remains of fallen SANDF finally land in SA

PRESIDENT Cyril Matamela Rampahosa, to deliver a key address at fallen South African National Defence Force.

This will happen around 7pm at the Swartkops Air Force Base in Gauteng, as rain began pouring down, a sign of sorrow.

14 SANDF troops died in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo on a peacekeeping mission.

The remains will then be handed over to the families of the fallen ‘Sons of the Soil’, whom many were still young.

Some family members did not say much, but only indicated they wanted to bury their loved ones with dignity, in their own culture and tradition.

Defence Minister Angie Motshekga, his deputy General Bantu Holomisa and other MPs responsible for Defence Portfolio, will also attend.

The last time SA experienced such unfortunate death of soldiers was in 2013.

Another concern is the slashing of budget at the defence force, and this has been a subject of discussion, with suggestions this should be prioritised by the President.
