Makhadzi bags hotly contested Artist of the Year category at the 2025 MMAs

MPUMALANGA– IF there’s one thing 2025 Metro FM awards organisers are damn good at- is the production.

Yes, millions of rands are not spared in that regard and kudos for another outstanding event that was beamed live to millions of viewers and those who attended feasted on the roaring bikes and an avalanche of fire-crackers, as Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit, came to live, this past Saturday evening.

That’s what we call a class act!

Albeit the awards were the last to be held in the Mpumalanga province after a three- year deal, a little bird whispered in my ear that the province could extend it for another year, considering the ROIs and KIPs associated with the awards.

The evening that was packed to the rafters, and thanks to Mother Nature rain did not dampen the mood, so did actors themselves (musicians) did not disappoint.

Limpopo’s Dance Queen- Makhadzi was crowned Artist of the Year, a testament to her unmatched impact, dedication, and fan support.

The Amapiano-hit Kwelanga 2.0 by Bassie, featuring M-Touch, Ranger, Amaza ft. Tman Xpress, and LeeMckrazy, swept the night with wins for Best Music Video, Best Amapiano Song, and Best Collaboration, all signed to Warner Music Africa.

“Winning Artist of the Year is more than an award, it’s recognition of the journey, the sweat, the sleepless nights, and most importantly, the love of the fans.

Limpopo to the world! I’m so grateful to my team and Africori for helping me dream louder,” shared Makhadzi, who was absent at the awards.

Kwaito legends TKZee and Gospel Queen, Dr. Rebecca Malope were celebrated for their contributions to South African music, all receiving Lifetime Achievement Awards.

The after-party did not disappoint either.

…err, we appreciate the support by the provincial Gvt on hosting the awards; but the Premier Mandla Ndlovu, who could hardly read the script as he presented the award, stole the show and pray such will not repeat itself. The less said, the better!
