FOLLOWING the resounding success of its Johannesburg gala dinner, which raised over R3.1 million towards building The Black Coffee Music Academy, the Black Coffee Foundation, has now set sights on Monaco.
On 25 May 2025, in the prestigious Fairmont Monte Carlo, the Foundation will host another unforgettable evening of philanthropy, music, and luxury – this time against the electrifying backdrop of the Monaco Grand Prix weekend.
The Black Coffee Music Academy will be a world-class institution designed to equip young African artists with the education, tools, and opportunities needed to thrive on the international stage. Students will gain comprehensive knowledge, from music production and album creation to marketing as well as the business of music; equipping them for long-term success in the industry.
The journey to building the Academy began with a star-studded gala in Johannesburg, where Black Coffee celebrated his birthday by raising an impressive R3.1 million through a live auction hosted by Strauss & Co.
The night was filled with elegance, featuring some of South Africa’s most influential names, from Fikile Mbalula and Major League DJz to ANATII, Blxckie, and former Miss South Africa – Dr. Tamaryn Green. Guests enjoyed world-class performances from Zandile Mzazi, Nduduzo Makhathini, Bikos Manna and Kitchen Mess; and a specially curated dining experience by Chef Scott; and a phenomenal address of excellence by Tshepo Mahloele – making it an unforgettable night.
Now, the Black Coffee Foundation is taking this vision global, bringing its fundraising efforts to one of the world’s most prestigious settings – Monaco. With an unparalleled guest list and the exhilarating energy of the Grand Prix as its backdrop, this gala promises to be an extraordinary evening of impact, celebration, and purpose.
Reflecting on this next chapter, Lungie Maphumulo, CEO of the Black Coffee Foundation had this to say, “The overwhelming success of our first gala reaffirmed our belief that this Academy is not just a dream – it’s a necessity. With the Monaco Grand Prix gala, we are taking our mission to an even greater platform, gathering international support to ensure that The Black Coffee Music Academy becomes a reality. This is more than just a fundraiser; it’s a movement to shape the future of music.”
Black Coffee went on to add, “This Academy represents a lot of what I’ve worked towards – creating opportunities for young African artists to thrive globally. Seeing so many people come together to support this mission has been humbling. Hosting our next gala in Monaco during the Grand Prix weekend is a powerful next step, and I’m beyond excited for what we’re building.”
The Black Coffee Foundation invites global philanthropists, industry leaders, motorsports and music lovers to join this exclusive event which unites icons in a shared mission to uplift and empower the next generation of musicians.
