The Naturena outfit has made a serious, if not, costly overhauling.
This follows firstly, the resignation of Brits’ coach Stuart Baxter.
As mentioned in our previous reports, Baxter cried foul on being sidelined when signing new players’ and the issue of Kingston Nkatha, whom many believe he ‘liked’ the player very much and was disheartened for seeing him leave the club.
Secondly, interference with the team’s manager Bobby Motaung also compounded his problems.
At today’s media brief, the 2014/15 PSL champs also parted ways with Mandla Masango, Tefu Mashamaite and Katlego Mphela, as indicated by club boss Kaizer “Chincha Guluva” Motaung, who also noted “Itu disrespected the club”.
Motaung has confirmed that contract negotiations with Khune and his representatives hit several snags over the past few months.
“As far as Itu is concerned, his case became more disrespectful to the club,” says Motaung, according to News 24.
“He sent us a note to say he will discuss [his contract] on 18 June.
“We cannot be held to ransom by anyone. The game and the club is bigger than anyone. We have decided to move on.”
Khune’s contract with Chiefs will expire at the end of June and will be free to join any club, with Downs’ likely to match his salary demands.
As yet- Tefu, Mphela and Masango’s signatures are up for grabs and anything can happen in weeks.
So, with the 5th annual Black Label Cup next month, don’t expect the above mentioned faces at AmaKhosi.
As for new coach we wait with bated breath, with rumour mill grinding that Pietermaritzburg United coach Steve Komphela is in line to the throne.
