Brown Mogotsi’s testimony questionable, and what does it say about him?

BITING more than you can chew.

That’s’ how one could sum up what the North West controversial figure Brown Mogotsi’s testimony at the Madlanga Commission on Tuesday, in Pretoria.

To tell the honest truth, Mogotsi is a dodgy character, finish and klaar!

He explosively revealed that he was investigating both KwaZulu-Natal SAPS Commissioner Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi and Zulu King, MisuZulu Ka Zwelithini, who are suspiciously CIA agents.

And he found out about the Political Killings Task Team (PKTT) disbandment letter, authored by ‘put on leave’ Police Minister Senzo Mchunu, through social media leaks.

Put to him, if he had prior knowledge of the disbandment letter, he said the information on the PKTT was leaked on social media on January 1, 2025.

“Through the social media leak it came to my attention; it suited the circumstances and the furtherance of my engagement with (Vusimusi ‘Cat’ Matlala, bolstering my credibility that I was in a position to inform him of the disbandment of the team before it was formally made public.

The time of the year, New Year’s day, further aided my purpose as Matlala did not seem to have knowledge of the social media leak,” he said.

He said he informed Matlala about the letter because he knew he “would be very much interested and happy because he did get harassed by the PKTT and he did make reference that they assaulted his wife”.

Dressed in a suite, whom many were not impressed with, Mogotsi, who seemed restless and took what looked like a Grandpa during testimony, made assertion that the late South Africa’s ambassador to France Nathi Mthethwa, had told him that he removed Mkhwanazi as an acting national police commissioner on the suspicion that he might have been a CIA agent.

Mthethwa was then the Minister of Police.

He also claimed he probed Matlala on this claim, saying that Matlala allegedly confessed to him that he paid Mkhwanazi money to solve his problems.

Mogotsi alleged that former Police Minister Bheki Cele received a R2 million payment from Matlala, who he identified as “John Wick” from a notorious Boko Haram, known for extorting money from local businesses people in Mamelodi, and also killed those who were problematic.

He claimed Cele knew Matlala was “John Wick” since 2018, contradicting Cele’s claim he only met Matlala in 2024.

He claimed Cele was furnished with a report on Matlala’s alleged criminal involvement.

National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola expected R25 million, with R5 million already paid, and Cele allegedly demanded R8 million more, revealed Mogotsi

Clutching the straws, is this Mogotsi, whose testimony continues today.

Meanwhile, Professor Mary De Haas also gave a contrasting evidence at the Police Ad Hoc Committee in Parliament on the same day.

Agitated Committee Members had to keep requesting chair Soviet Lekhanyane to intervene, as they tried to seek clarity from her.

On numerous occasions De Haas was gesturing and avoiding to answer the same affidavits he deposed to members.

Her qualifications came under scrutiny, as well.
