EVER heard of blaring house hit “drive” by globetrotter Black Coffee?
If not, since it’s a holiday season and Black Friday sales still on offer, why not get yourself the latest VW Tayron T SUV model?
This seven-seater Tayron pronounced (tie-ron) is the extended wheelbase between Tiguan and Touareg, within the German’s SUV portfolio.
I took it for an inspection, after attending the annual Summer Horserace Cup in Turffontein, and off we hit the road en-route to NW for the family friend’s kids ordination.
Loved the exterior as one would, such as lowered roofline, a tweaked headlight design and square-off rear bumper, and Black Styling pack standard R-Line 19-inch alloy wheels 20-inch York rims. It has a towbar as well.
Its full-width lights strips at the front and rear along with illuminated badging, in the evening, are found in white, in front and red at the rear.
R-Line also gets LED Plus diodes for clearer vision at night, that came in handy especially when driving in areas were animals go astray and locals disregarding road signs.
The interior part- it comes packed with Digital Cockpit digital instrument cluster and 12.9-inch infotainment system standard features.
Tayron it’s a full house from LED headlamps, ADAS features such as park assist, blind-spot monitoring with rear traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, and lane-keeping assist.
It boast heated, ventilated and electric front seats with a massaging function clad in Varenna leather. It also featured 30-colour ambient lighting, rear window blinds, tri-zone climate control and electric tailgate.
The powertrain on offer is the 1.4-litre TSI petrol engine that produces 110kW of power and 250Nm of torques that sent the front wheels via seven-speed DSG transmission, and that was realised en-route to my village from Jozi.
It was a pleasure to drive, as the ride is plush with the DSG box having less low-down turbo lag.
As or fuel/petrol consumption it worked out to 10.6L/100km, which is par for the course with this engine.
The only snag- like almost every seven-seater, legroom in the third row isn’t exactly meant to keep adults comfortable, or bigger ones for that matter but the kids love it, during the washing of the SUV, as they sang/whistled along to “drive” song.

It offers 345 litres of boots space, which goes up to 885 with the rear row folded flat.
With havoc having wrecked most parts of the country due to hail-storm, Tayron stood its ground, yet what I found very strange, 4x4s were seen packed under the bridge as we approached Carletonville from Potchefstroom.
Driven the R-Line that cost – R899 900
Others Volkswagen Tayron 1.4 TSI DSG cost– R811 800 and 1.4 TSI Life DSG – R853 800
Included in the price is a three-year/120 000 km warranty and a five-year/90 000 km service plan.
Verdict
Performance 1-10 (80)
Fuel 1-10 (7)

Happy festive holiday season, to you all…AMEN!
