THE Madlanga Commission continues its sterling work.
Today, we learnt of the arrest of four Ekurhuleni Municipality senior officials, though some are no longer with the municipality.
EMPD acting chief, Julius Mkhwanazi (already suspended) former Ekurhuleni city manager Imogen Mashazi and two former senior municipal officials, were arrested last night by the by the Commission’s Recommendations Task Team.
They face allegations of fraud, corruption and defeating the ends of justice.
Another suspended is legal services head Kemi Behari and former human resources head Linda Gxasheka, respectively.
They all appeared at the Germiston Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.
Behari and Gxasheka received irregular salary increases worth about R600,000 in return for allegedly ensuring Mkhwanazi’s disciplinary case disappeared, during the Commissions’ hearing.
It is believed Behari failed for years to act on findings against Mkhwanazi, allowing disciplinary proceedings not to go ahead.
The same Mkhwanazi, is out on R30,000 bail in a separate case linked to Municipal Manager Kagiso Lerutla.
