Mandela Day activities build up!

Nelson Mandela Foundation CE Sello Hatang (L), Carolyn Steyn, Cell C CEO José dos Santos (R) are some of the people behind the Nelson Mandela Day celebrations.

In the run up to Nelson Mandela Day (July 18) this is another project of this movement to keep South Africa warm.

The Knitwits of 67 Blankets of Nelson Mandela Day were called upon a few weeks ago by founder Carolyn Steyn to knit scarves for distribution, the call was answered and at 3pm on Thursday the scarves will be distributed in various towns by tying them onto trees, lampposts and fences in the identified areas.

It happens at Regina Mundi Church, Mkhize Street-Soweto from 3pm.

Pedestrians and commuters are welcomed and encouraged to take a scarf for themselves as they were made with love and goodwool and are meant to keep someone warm.

Suzette van der Merwe, Executive Commercial Communications at Cell C and head of the Cell C Foundation says, “this inspiring activity can knit together communities and people across the country. We are hoping that all South Africans will take up this challenge”.

Let’s celebrate Mandela Day with the less fortunate!
