The announcement will be made on Wednesday morning from 7am.
In his call the minister of Sport Fikile Mbalula has urged the country to watch and witness the announcement of the host nation for the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
“We’ve come too far from when we decided to bid for the hosting of the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
The South African government took a deliberate decision to position our country as a tourist destination and these games will once again affirm this.
If our bid is successful, we expect up to R20 Billion in output to the economy which this translates to R11 Billion in GDP growth delivered by the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
We are at a great advantage because we won’t build but renovate and use existing infrastructure made possible by the 2010 FIFA World Cup. I call all South Africans to join us as we witness yet another historical moment”
South Africa’s public broadcaster SABC and other news channels will carry the announcement live on their morning news shows from 7am.
Speaking to SLM at the Amashova media brief last month the City of Durban Tourism CE, said they were ready to welcome visitors to the City as they have capabilities, infrastructure, accommodation and backing of the national Government to host the Games. Its all systems go.”
