In deep thoughts. ANC’s Cape Town boss Marius Fransman will present his case on alleged rape incident.

Speaking to News24, ANC Western Cape spokesperson Jabu Mfusi said there would be no disciplinary in the initial meeting, but rather an opportunity for Fransman to speak for himself.

“Our party normally sits for a meeting on Mondays anyway and we will be addressing this matter as well as a number of other items. This is the first time we have had an opportunity to formally discuss this because as you know the 104th ANC celebrations in Rustenburg took place this weekend.

“Comrade Fransman will be given a chance to address the party regarding this matter.”

The complaint against Fransman was laid in Rustenburg on Friday.

According to Mfusi, the ANC held strong policies for women’s rights and added that the party would respect and assist investigations.

“Rape is a punishable offence in the ANC. We take these matters very seriously. Gender equality is a big part of our policy and the rights of women is highly regarded by the ANC. We will assist and let the law take its course.”

North West police spokesperson Colonel Sabata Mokgwabone said a case had been opened and was under investigation.

No arrest has been made.

Meanwhile, Velaphi Khumalo from the department of Sport in Gauteng, has been suspended with full pay.

This follows a racist remark he posted on Facebook, were he called for black South Africans to do to white people what “Hitler did to the Jews” and cleanse the country of white people.

According to spokersperson for the department Nomazwe Ntlokwane, the Sports Promotion Officer was served with an official suspension letter on Friday.

The department has been in the media recently, following the precautionery suspension of Namhla Siqaza- head of the department- last year by the Premier David Makhura.

She allegedly attempted to bribe a senior official from the auditor-general’s office.

The failed attempt followed after the A-G’s office uncovered massive corruption, which involves unexplained expenditure of public funds involving millions of rand, that included some of money spent on the Bob van Rheenen Stadium and the department’s provincial archives in Krugersdorp.
