On Limpopo roads, millions of members of the Zion Christian Church (ZCC) and its sister church St Engenas ZCC make their pilgrimage to Moria this weekend.
Moria, about 40km east of Polokwane, was already a hive of activity this week as members prepared for the multitudes expected to descend on two neighbouring villages. Many pilgrims had long arrived, preferring to be a step ahead of the inevitable congestion.
The highlight of the pilgrimage will be on Sunday when the leaders of the churches deliver their Easter messages.
The ZCC is led by Bishop Barnabas Lekganyane, while the relatively smaller St Engenas is led by Bishop Joseph Lekganyane.
The pilgrimage, often graced by politicians, prominent business people and sports personalities, is by far the biggest gathering of any kind in the region.
The ZCC claimed that 13 million people turned up over the Easter weekend last year.
