CONSPIRACIES and sabotage cloud the Mayor of Joburg.
CoJ Mayor Dada Morero is under attack from fellow comrades, MMCs and an official from Rand Water, following an alleged leaked audio to destabilise his leadership by “shutting down water from Johannesburg as long as possible”.
According to The Star newspaper, the audio clip was recorded during a meeting where two Members of the Mayoral Committee, two ANC officials and a Rand Water official allegedly discussing strategies on destabilising the Mayor’s leadership, by “shutting down water flow from Johannesburg as long as possible,” suggesting that the water cuts that have plagued the city have been orchestrated to portray the mayor as unfit to secure adequate water supply for residents.
Talk of shutting down, this has been evident in the past months with water being shut or rationed in the City of Gold, so this alleged sabotage might not be far from the truth.
In response the City says:” We note that this ploy is said to be part of a political scheme to render the City ungovernable and to usurp the mayor of his authority. These damning allegations will not be taken lightly and the Mayor will explore legal counsel and possible options not ruling out possibly approaching law enforcement agencies for a possible probe to investigate should these allegations be found to be legitimate.”
It is alleged that those conspiring against Morero intended to cut off the City’s water supply for an extended period to undermine his leadership and portray him as ineffective.
Mayor Morero wishes to confirm that the City of Joburg will not be deterred in its responsibility to resolve the water supply challenges.
The City also confirmed the Mayor has received reports from Joburg Water that the system has improved dramatically and has fully recovered, following the oversight Mayor Morero undertook in Berea and Eikenhof reservoirs four days ago.
Perhaps the issue of electricity should also be looked into.
