Adv Teffo back in court but representing the five accused of murdering Meyiwa

ADVOCATE MALESELA Teffo, who was dramatically arrested in court, was back on Monday in the same court, representing the five accused who killed Senzo Meyiwa in 2014.

Teffo was heckled and hand-cuffed in full view of cameras and the whole world to see. But that has not deterred him to do his job.

His representing the five men, who have all pleaded not guilty in connection with the murder in Vosloorus, East Rand.

The five men are Muzikawukhulelwa Sthemba Sibiya, 34; Bongani Sandiso Ntanzi, 30; Mthobisi Prince Ncube, 36; Mthokoziseni Ziphozonke Maphisa, 35, and Sifisokuhle Ntuli, 32.

Adv Teffo was arrested as the proceedings for the day had adjourned, for allegedly being in contempt of court in an unrelated matter.

He was detained and appeared briefly at the Hillbrow Police Station, the following day and subsequently released. He will appear again in court soon.

During his arrest Adv Teffo told the media that “Police Minister Bheki Cele does not want me to handle this case”, of which Cele has gone on record to deny.

The highly publicised trial will resume on Tuesday at the Pretoria High Court.

Meanwhile, the high court had to deal with a matter relating to media coverage, further delaying matters.

This time the defence raised concerns about the presence of Ten10 Films, the production house that is commissioned to make a documentary about Meyiwa’s death for Netflix.

However, the judge says the production crew will remain in court.
