Amarok rocks!

And to prove its stewardship amongst the bakkie segments, Amarok is now available in TSI petrol engine, following the diesel introduction.

Amarok launched in South Africa- September last year, immediately set a new benchmark in the bakkie segment. Its advanced engine technology, extensive active and passive safety systems, and a high level of comfort and specification set the Amarok apart from its competitors.

All the engines are mated with a 6-speed manual transmission. An automatic transmission is planned for introduction in the third quarter of 2012.

According to VWSA, Amarok Dobule Cab has sold over 4 500 units and has a market share of 15.5%, which makes it’s the second best-selling Double Cab bakkie in South Africa in 2011.

The introduction of a 2.0 TSI 118kW engine completes the Double Cab model line-up that includes 2.0 TDI 90kW and 2.0 BiTDI 120kW derivatives.

To show its mettle and competitiveness, locally it has successfully hosted two Spirit of Africa off-road competitions, in which over 950 teams competed, and internationally enjoys a high profile as the official escort and back-up vehicle for the annual Dakar Rally.

The four-cylinder 2.0 TSI engine uses a turbo-charged induction system and 16-valve cylinder head. Its maximum power of 118kW is delivered between 3800 rpm and 5500rpm. It is in torque delivery, however that this engine really excels with 300 Nm delivered from just 1600 rpm right through to 3750 rpm.

At the core of this remarkable performance is a host of latest generation engine combustion technologies including variable valve timing and a constantly variable vane turbocharger. The direct injection fuel system has an operating pressure of 190 bar (2760 psi) for optimised fuel atomisation and complete combustion for high efficiency and low emissions.

It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in under 10 seconds and has a top speed of 180 km/h. This level of performance is matched by exceptional fuel consumption of 9,6 l/100km and CO2 emissions of 228 g/km.
