Babsy Mlangeni, PJ Powers amongst legends heading the Soweto Legends concert

SOWETO THEARE brings you Legends Tribute with Sipho “Hotstix” Mabuse.

The much awaited tribute concert takes place on September 25, at the venue- Jabulani, Soweto.

Legends to be honoured features doyens of entertainment such as Mam’Abigail Kubeka, Babsy Mlangeni, PJ Powers/Thandeka, Soul Brothers, Pappa & Blondie and Sipho “Hotstix” Mabuse, himself.

When she played at the Jabulani theatre in 1993, she became a household name in southern Africa after the widespread success of the song ‘Jabulani’, that led to her new name Thandeka.

PJ powers as we have come to know her, drank from a calabash as part of the performance much to the delight of the audience. So, she makes her return to Jabulani- nostalgic for Thandeka.

The concert will give audience a live musical spectacular that brings the nostalgia of 80’s music and party anthems back into style. Powerful vocals, amazing harmonies and world-class musicians recreate the 80’s era in all its glory.

The tribute is a fitting occasion forming part of Soweto Theatres 10 year celebration seasoned programme since marking a 10 year milestone on 25 May 2022.

The Legends Tribute enshrines each star’s legacy allowing fans a chance, once again, to enjoy the majesty of their world-renowned performances.

The concert will be a reflective musical journey of South African music legends by the legends and the extent to which the musicians on the line-up have been inspired by paying tribute to other legends in the music industry.

“What a befitting way to officially launch the Iconic Amphitheatre and to commemorate this historic moment with the greats, the gems that have graced stages around the globe and are living legends.

Legends tribute is set to take you on a musical Journey traversing through decades while providing historical insights about these glorious Icons as they blazed their own renowned trails.

Audience will be treated to classic songs that’ll transport them back in time, including Burnout by Sipho Hotstix, Blondie Makhenes Too many people, Jabulani by PJ Powers and many of your favourites from the 80’s era”, says Vincent Motau- Soweto Theatre GM.

Tickets are R150.
