Black Coffee Foundation and partners make a donation to Mthatha residents that were plagued by floods and lives lost

IN response to the devastating floods that recently displaced hundreds of families in Mthatha, the Black Coffee Foundation – in partnership with leading organisations and generous donors; has stepped forward to provide urgent relief and long-term support to those in need.

Assisting on the ground from 11 June – the initiative driven by compassion and community spirit, is part of the Foundation’s ongoing commitment to uplifting vulnerable communities across South Africa, especially during extreme winter weather conditions.

South Africa continues to grapple with increasingly unpredictable climate-related disasters, and the Eastern Cape remains one of the hardest-hit regions. The floods in Mthatha left many residents without shelter, food, and basic resources. Recognising the scale of the crisis, the Black Coffee Foundation mobilised a coalition of partners and community supporters to provide essential relief to affected families.

Together with Feed the Nation, the Hollywoodbets Foundation, Nando’s, Sompire, BidAirCargo, and NGL Logistics Group, the Black Coffee Foundation coordinated the delivery of much-needed supplies including food parcels, warm clothing, hygiene packs, and other essentials.

These efforts were made possible through the collective generosity of individuals and organisations who helped raise over R500,000 in aid for the families impacted by the floods.

“This is more than just a relief effort – it’s a call to action for all of us to step up and support our communities in times of crisis,” said Lungie Maphumulo, CEO of the Black Coffee Foundation.

“The Eastern Cape holds a deep significance not only for the Foundation, but for the many people who call it home. We are grateful to our partners and to every single person who donated towards this cause. Giving back isn’t just something we do – it’s who we are.”

The Foundation’s relief work in Mthatha marks the beginning of a longer-term effort to support recovery and resilience in the region. In addition to the immediate humanitarian response, the Black Coffee Foundation has committed to an ongoing project aimed at rebuilding livelihoods and improving infrastructure in the affected communities.

Maphumulo added: “As a foundation, we believe that real impact comes through sustained action. This initiative is not a once-off campaign – it’s part of our wider mission to continue showing up where it matters most. We understand the long road ahead for many families in Mthatha, and we intend to walk that road with them.”

The collaborative nature of this effort reflects the power of partnerships in times of need.

Each partner played a crucial role in enabling swift, effective delivery of aid.

The Foundation extends its heartfelt thanks to Feed the Nation for their tireless work in providing food security; the Hollywoodbets Foundation for their rapid response and community grants; Nando’s for assisting with prepared meals; Sompire for their advocacy and on-the-ground presence; BidAir Cargo for handling critical transport logistics; and NGL Logistics Group for the safe and efficient delivery of supplies.

As winter temperatures drop and the effects of climate change become more visible each year, the Black Coffee Foundation calls on more partners and individuals to continue supporting those at risk.

Every act of giving makes a difference – and every life touched is a testament to what we can achieve together.
