Bye-bye Dr Masuku, fired for corrupt dealings

The former MEC for Health in Gauteng was given marching orders following a
leave of absence by his former boss Premier David Makhura, on Friday.

Masuku was instructed to take leave of absence in connection with the
awarding of Personal Protective Equipment’s tenders to companies linked to
his friends on July 30.

Makhura indicated that he had been receiving regular updates from the
Special Investigating Unit (SIU) on the investigation into procurement
irregularities regarding (PPEs).

The preliminary findings of the Special Investigative Unit report
implicated the Health MEC and was fired.

“On Friday October 2, Premier David Makhura received another updated report
from the SIU pertaining to the role of the MEC for health Dr Bandile
Masuku, who was placed on special leave … in July 2020,” said
spokesperson Thabo Masebe.

But today Masuku’s fate was decided that he must walk the plank.

Makhura also reiterated they want the PPE money back from all those
implicated including companies.

ANC’s Gauteng Integrity Commission, Provincial Executive Committee and the
Provincial Working Committee, were caught in the cross-fire over this
contentious matter, some citing the report was riddled with inconsistencies
and gaps in its findings.

Masuku was not readily available for comment at the time of publishing.

MEC for Infrastructure Jacob Mamabolo will continue acting in the Health
capacity.
