The 26 year old Cele, from Gamalakhe in the coastal KZN, lost his life in horrific car accident that claimed another life of SABC sport presenter Delisile Ngwenya.
Other two ladies (occupants) are still hospitalised.
The young Cele, follows in the steps of SA football youngsters who were casualties of same fate such as Bucs players Gift Leremi & Lesley Manyathela, former Arrows and FS Stars Richard Henyekane, who all lost their lives on the prime of their careers.
Cele’s industrial work also landed him a Bafana call up.
Yesterday, colleagues and fellow teammates sobbed uncontrollably, especially after he scored against Bucs in the PSL clash, the previous night.
A moment’s silence was observed for Cele in yesterday’s PSL game and a decision on whether Maritzburg’s KwaZulu-Natal derby against Golden Arrows will take place on Saturday will be made during the week.
Meanwhile, United team manager Quinton Jettoo said they have already met Mondli Cele’s family and they will take the lead from them in terms of funeral arrangements.
At the time of publishing PSL, SAFA, football clubs, players and minister of sport department had sent their messages of condolences.
Rest in Peace Ndosi!
