THE 2024 matric results will published nationally on January 14, 2025.
This was confirmed today by the Umalusi, the quality assurer of education in South Africa.
The National Senior Certificate (NSC) examination, saw a total of 832,993 public school candidates who wrote the NSC exams across 150 subjects.
According to Umalusi’s CEO Dr Mafu Rakometsi, they confirmed that the 2024 assessments met the required standards. Despite concerns about marker shortages, loadshedding, and potential disruptions due to protests, the Department of Basic Education implemented effective mitigation plans.
A significant achievement this year was a substantial decrease in group copying cases.
The number dropped from 945 in 2023 to 407 in 2024, indicating a positive trend in exam integrity.
However, the Information Regulator’s urgent application to not publish the matric results was struck off the roll by the High Court in Pretoria, noting the matter did not warrant any urgency.
The regulator argued that the publishing of the results is a violation of the Protection of Personal Information Act.
The Basic Education Department and other parties insist the publishing of the results, is in the public’s interest.
Advocate Pansy Tlakula, the chairperson of IR, says they respect the outcome of the court judgment but will make a determination going forward.
The department has still to pay the R5 million fine before deadline, says Tlakula.
The IR fined the department of basic education for failing to comply with an enforcement notice in November, which ordered the department to make an undertaking that it will not publish the 2024 matric results in the media.
Minister of Basic Education, Siviwe Gwarube, will announce the 2024 matric results.
