DJs to cook up a storm in Soweto. Ayeye!

YFM DJ Sabby will be at the Cook- Off DJs event, Lebo’s BackPackers -Soweto-on Saturday.

This first ever concept, pits DJs to go up against each other on a full day Cook-Off which will encompass 3 meals – brunch, supper and a late night braai.

It goes down at the well-liked Lebo’s Backpackers’ Orlando West- Soweto, were patrons and stay over night guests will be treated to a fest loaded with tons of fun.

According to Linda Ginya, event organiser 50 to 100 tents will be erected to accommodate revellers anticipated to witness DJs cooking up a storm.

Chef Shaq, Ayanda MVP, Anathi, Nia Brown, Kuxx Da Kruk, DJ Sabby, Entro, L Bang Bang Boogie, Mthaux, TulzMadala, Captain Z, Supta, Siso, Xtremme, will be put to the test throughout the day.

The DJs will be randomly paired up to teams of 2-4. Each team will then be tasked with preparing one of the 3 meals of the day. Each team will be given 3 hours to prepare their meal.

Patrons will then be able to vote for their favourite meals through a secret ballot with boxes placed on the food preparation tables.

By the end of the night the DJs with the best meal will be announced as the Kings/Queens of the Cook-Off.

Albeit, the month is only days to go before that all important pay day, those fortunate can book a tent, entrance fee, spit braai and breakfast from 28 to 29 for R350.

Voluptuous Ayanda MVP will cook up a storm at the event.

The lesser mortals like yours truly, can opt for R150 ticket entrance for 28 only that include entrance and cocktails only.

Asked on security and ablution for over night campers, Linda promised that visible security has been solicited from locals and ablution showers have been arranged at Lebo’s BackPackers.

“Those who are camping will get a bonfire and live music performances, potjiekos, cooking spit braai, cocktail mixing, craft beer, etc…”
Lebo’s BackPackers is synonymous with droves of international tourists and is also credited for being receptive and safe for everyone.

The entire Cook-Off will be filmed like a TV show where wanna-be Chefs have to speak to cam about what they are making and what each member is preparing.

The project also forms part of Gauteng Tourism’s mandate to promote local tourism in townships in the province.

It is backed by GTA and Chivas Regal.
