Downs register win after eight matches!

The Pretoria derby saw the much improved and eagered Downs taking on the University of Pretoria during the Telkom Knockout first round encounter. Fans should be the happy lot.

The lanky Anthony Snoti Laffor took all the plaudits for this morale-boosting triumph after he neatly tucked away the ball for Sundowns’ only goal in the 48th minute, shaming striker Eleazar Rodgers, who had missed from a similar position in the first half.

Perhaps, this would have put a smile on Downs coach Johan Neeskens who has been under extreme pressure- thus calling for his resignation- by the irate fans.

But being a true legend Neeskens has not showed any signs of cracking or throwing tantrums, safe to say the smile!

It is almost unbelievable to record that Sundowns hadn’t won a single match since August 10 when they narrowly defeated PSL new boys Chippa United at Lucas Moripe Stadium.

If last night’s performance is anything to go by, then we could could see the different and reformed Downs’ from now on.

The Brazilians kept it simple, stuck to the basics and enjoyed fluidity in their passing whereas, Tuks were turned into pedestrians.

Immediately, after the match Telkom Knockout quarterfinal draw was conducted and is as follows:

BidVest Wits vs FS Stars,

Bloem Celtic vs Pirates,

AmaZulu vs Sundowns,

Maritzburg vs SS United

Venue and dates to be confirmed later.
