AIP- Association of Independent Publishers in Gauteng, has unanimously elected Eric Phiri, as their representative in the national structure.
The esteemed publisher of both Stokvel Talk and Kasie Focus, has been a member of the organisation for a while.
He replaces another publisher Octavia Hlungwane Ngondo, who passed-on this year.
The soft-talking but affirmative ‘Madala’ as he’s known to some, will have to hit the ground running as the AIP in Gauteng, faces dwindling advertising spend and financial impediments.
Upon his election, Phiri acknowledged his dedication to addressing the “struggles within the sector, aiming to unlock opportunities and support for community media entities”.
Various publishers spoke highly of him, and vowed to lend AIP’s support in achieving its dream of changing the media sector in Gauteng and nationally.
Phiri also host the national Stokvel roadshows countywide.
The politically astute Madala, who apart from tight schedule, makes time for family and enjoys traveling.
