Eye infection withdraws Dr Hugh Masekela from music show

Excused. Dr Hugh Masekela will no longer be part of the iRock Jazz in Polokwane this week due to eye infection.

The legendary bra Hugh went for an emergency medical procedure on his left eye on Friday, 15 September, according to his management.

As a result, he has been withdrawn to either perform or travel.

“Following a routine medical check-up on Tuesday,12 September 2017, and after further tests, Bra Hugh went in for an emergency medical procedure on his left eye on Friday, 15 September 2017.

Following this procedure, the doctor has ordered bed rest and a calm environment for post treatment healing until the end of October. No travel or performances permitted,” says Josh Georgio, representing Masekela’s Management.

However, the show does go on with Zimbabwe’s acoustic soul singer and composer, Gemma Griffiths and Limpopo’slegendary musician Dr Thomas Chauke, still performing as scheduled.

According to Rito Hlungwani, founder and director of the iRock Music Festivals, new headline act will be announced before the event this Friday.

Doors to the iRock Jazz Legends open at 19h15 and tickets are available from Computicket at R280 for general access and R1250 for VIP access which includes an open bar, food and parking.
