THE late businessman, Dr Sam Motsuenyane, has been hailed as an outstanding leader and a black business pioneer.
This is according to former president Thabo Mbeki, who spoke at his funeral in Pretoria on Thursday.
Motsuenyane died on Monday at the age of 97.
He was the founding member of the National Federated Chamber of Commerce (NAFCOC), through which he established and sponsored black-owned businesses.
Mbeki said he will be remembered for his unrelenting passion to uplift black businesses.
“Ntate-mogolo’s departure has taken away from all of us a true gentlemen, whose dignity, sacrificing manner, and gentle nature confirmed that in him were the true humanists.
“In him, we had a monument of an unageing monument intellect who continued to serve as our beacon and guide as we attend to his unfinished work of the fundamental transformation of our country.
“How I wish he were still with us to lead us in the new national dialogue we have proposed.”
Mbeki expressed his heartfelt condolences to the Motsuenyane and Mashinini families.
“Robala ka Kagiso Mokoena (Rest in Peace, Mokoena), iconic hero for our people, monument of un-aging intellect, our beloved leader, truly your spirit lives on,” he said.

Meanwhile, the funeral service of the late Dingaan “The Rose of Soweto” Thobela, also took place today.
He was buried in Soweto, were hundreds of mourners attended, including former boxers and sports stars.
