‘Gem in the Cradle’ that is the grand Glenburn Lodge & Spa

THE moment one enters the tranquil Glenburn Lodge & Spa, the oohs and aahs reverberate in your Soul, period…

Perched in the Cradle of Humankind World Heritage Site, we were welcomed by a stand-alone Giraffe as we made our way for check-in, on a soaring hot Saturday, last weekend.

Thank you for leading the way G,” remarked an animated guest as it led our way towards the entrance to the reception, as clicks of mobile phones snapped it away.

To make it worse, had to attend the Windhoek event that was only ten-minutes drive from ‘our place’ in an open space. Lovely but heat was unbearable.

Glenburn Lodge & Spa is surrounded by indigenous bush and lies at the foot of the Zwartkops Mountains, on the banks of the Blaauwbank River.

Talk of a river, temptation was whether to swim or use one of the gigantic pool’s on offer but since time was not on our side, we opted for a waterfall bearing ‘Klein Haartebees’ prompting a question from my traveling team, “why is that we’re a scarce water country; yet the river is flowing in abundance”, hesitantly I responded, ‘my guess is just good as yours’.

The venue offers various types of accommodation (we stayed at three-bedroom chalets) including comfortable accommodation across 100 bedrooms made up of two-bedroom chalets, garden suites, standard hotel rooms, twin rooms, and hotel suites.

All rooms are suited with comfortable beds, en-suite bathroom, air-conditioning, and a safe.

Other in-room facilities include a TV, DStv, and tea-and-coffee-making facilities. On-site facilities include a swimming pool, Wi-Fi, secure parking, a jacuzzi, conference facilities, spa treatments, a guest lounge, and massage and beauty therapy.

On-site activities include bird watching, hiking, fishing, and putt-putt. A huge conference rooms is also available for bookings.

Ok, we missed a lot because upon checking-in, had to dash off to the Windhoek event. But after a sumptuous breakfast on Sunday morning, we took brief walk towards the river and waterfall, that is lush and peaceful.

Missing the likes of a Jacuzzi, spa treatments et al, was not a good sign at all, that necessitated a call for a second round of a visit to complete our sojourn, at this magnificent venue that is only 30m drive from Jozi and 10m from Krugersdorp.

What we also noticed was the resort was beaming with guests since it was a pay-day week, including those attending a wedding, from young to old, hence it is celebrated for its serene atmosphere and a proper get-away for all.

My team took advantage of kiddies stuff by jumping on the castle and enjoying putt-putt, as we made our way towards the pool for a sundowner, before signing out of the lodge.

Glenburn Lodge and Spa- is part of Guvon Hotels and Spas, no wonder its regaled as ‘Gem in the Cradle’.
