Grimace fever hits mzansi

THE Landing of the purple Grimace in SA was (un)expected.

OR Tambo Int’l Airport was painted purple as McDonald SA made sure it was a fitting welcome.

As we speak the gigantic Grimace is enjoying his shake at the store next to you- so kids and parents get moving to share in the fun, as the purple character will visit some of the selected Mcd’s establishments nationally, he’s first visit to our shores.

“This is yet another exciting milestone for our fans and customers in our nearly 30 years in South Africa,” says the visibly overjoyed McDonald’s South Africa Marketing Director- Sechaba Motsieloa, also adding, “we’re thrilled to have Grimace here and ready to make happy happen.”

Upon Grimace’s arrival, kids and parents and international tourists were in awe, hence they had a chance to snap with their mobiles, as Grimace made way to a press brief, that for the very first time allowed kids to pose questions such as “why is the colour purple”, “what is your favourite drink”, “how do you sleep” and so forth, whom some were shy to take pics with, and others just cried for the love of it…that’s when happy happens!

Katlego Moloi (6) from Kempton Park, whom the colour purple is her favourite, says she looks forwarding talking to Grimace and taking loads of pictures with him, and also ask how old is he? when he visit a McDonald store in Boksburg as part of activation.

Grimace has been at the heart of popular culture for decades, inspiring plenty of “Grimace lore” as fans speculated about his mysterious origins. His warm and quirky charm has made him a favourite across the globe, and he’s ready to embrace everything South Africa has to offer.

During his visit, Grimace will immerse himself in the vibrant culture, music, and iconic landmarks that make South Africa special. From exploring buzzing cityscapes to taking in the stunning natural beauty of the landscapes, Grimace will soak up the essence of the country.

During his six week tour, Grimace will only visit specifically identified restaurants and not do schools as examinations are on-going. But according to Motsieloa, he will also visit the McDonald’s House- that caters for sick children.

Fans can also look forward to a new menu addition—the famous Purple Grimace Shake, which has already taken the world by storm.

Exclusive Grimace merchandise will be available through the MyM App as a limited time offer, allowing fans to bring home a piece of the magic.

Grimace’s visit coincides with another exciting development—the expansion of Mobile Order Pay.

Customers can now order ahead for their favourite meals, including the famous Grimace Shake, at more McDonald’s restaurants across South Africa. This is available through the McDonald’s App in a variety of convenient options: Curbside Pickup, Drive-Thru, and Dine-In.

Oh, by the way he may compose Amapiano song with an artist of his choice…
