‘Icala Lempumelelo’ a twelve-track album project by Big Zulu is culturally rooted

IF only Big Zulu and sultry Azana were dating, then mzansi would be in awe!

The pair’s ‘Amacala Othando’ speaks about broken marriage and miscommunication in a relationship, so unfortunately, they’re not dating neither married- that’s until cupid decides otherwise.

They both look gorgeous and this was confirmed at Big Zulu’s ‘Icala Lempumelelo’ album launch, held at his sponsors outlet Spitz, Sandton on Thursday evening.

Intimate as it is, hundreds of fans, musicians, influencers and media gathered to experience what the ‘Zulu’ has under his sleeve, and he did not disappoint, especially during the live performance with the pretty and humble Azana.

The 12 track album, now available on all major streaming platforms, seamlessly weaves together Ushun, Hip Hop, and Afro Pop, while showcasing collaborations with industry icons namely uBab’ Shwi and his dear mfowethu Sjava, alongside rising stars such as Ma7.

“In this album, I highlighted the love I have for different genres. Everyone will get a treat featuring legends and upcoming talents, all adding a touch to the culture,” the bulky looking Big Zulu quipped, who seemed healthy after an accident recently.

Born Siyabong Nene, whose album was preceded by a launch in Durban, before heading to Jozi-Maboneng, pays homage to his musical versatility and deep-rooted cultural identity.

Talk of cultural identity, some of the guests and artists were clad in Zulu attire that brought Spitz and the whole Sandton to an abrupt-standstill.

uBab’ Swhi and DJ Tira were also recorded in deep conversation, and who knows there might be an offering soon.

Testament to artistic evolution, blending introspective storytelling with infectious rhythms, the album notably has guests such as “Abazazi Bafunani” (feat. eMtee) and the genre-fluid “Mbali yam” (feat. Aymos), alongside the soul-stirring “Interlude” (feat. Sjava & Ma7).

Sorry to Aphiwe Naledi who lost her mobile, as she cried hysterically. The team had to comfort the influencer of note.
