In Bloom short film focuse on gender issues

THE thought-provoking In Bloom anthology, five compelling short films to hit our screens soon.

March 8 2024, is the due date.

The film was shot in SA and other African countries, also delves in various cultures as depicted by female characters.

It focuses into complexities of gender issues following characters on the brink of the life defining moments by choice of circumstances.

On Wednesday, MTV Base SA hosted the launch and sneek peak of In Bloom, at their head office, Bryanston.

Directed by emerging female filmmakers from SA, Nigeria, Kenya, India, the U.S. and Brazil, the anthology addresses a range of issues including period poverty, child marriage, gender-based violence, HIV self- stigma, family planning and women’s economic empowerment.

As a part of the MTV Staying Alive Foundation’s mission of storytelling to change lives and Paramount’s “Content For Change” initiative, the series aims to champion new voices and enable conversations to dismantle systemic injustices in support of the U.N.’s gender equality goal.

The launch of In Bloom, also coincides with the International Women’s Day on March 8.

Monde Twala, senior VP & GM Paramount and Peer Lead, BET International and Board member MTV Staying Alive Foundation, says theirs is to create a conducive environment for up and coming female producers to excel in their environment.

“In Bloom’ marks an exciting new phase in the work of MTV Staying Alive Foundation on gender equality. Our experience tells us that working in partnership with the communities we serve, is the best way to achieve impact and change in the world,” he says.

It is funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
