THE MSC FOUNDATION has joined other companies in lending a hand to floods victims in the KwaZulu-Natal.
It will provide assistance to affected communities in the form of food parcels, blankets, and other necessities to be distributed through reputable NGO’s in the province.
In addition, MSC Orchestra and two MSC Cargo vessels which are currently operating out of Durban, will also be donating water to affected communities from the ship’s onboard water treatment plants.
The MSC Foundation, is the philanthropic arm of the MSC Group (Mediterranean Shipping Company and MSC Cruises) that provides immediate and longer-term relief and recovery efforts across the globe.
“The KZN community is one that is close to our hearts at the MSC Group, as we have a large base in the Province and have invested heavily here, most recently with the new KwaZulu Cruise Terminal. Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to the families who have been affected by this devastation and our condolences go out to those that have lost loved ones during this period.
We want to do what we can to help the people of KZN in this time of great need,” says the (‘Zulu-boy’) Ross Volk- managing director, MSC Cruises South Africa.
The extent of the damage to goods and lives led to President Cyril Matamela Ramaphosa declaring the National State of Emergency this week.
On Tuesday, we reported that numbers of displaced people continues to grow and over 1900 households have been destroyed.
Schools, roads and businesses were affected, albeit the mop-up program has begun in all affected areas such as Umlazi and in far-flung areas.
A clarion call has been made by all to monitor and evaluate funds allocated to avoid any corruption, malfeasance or mismanagement.
